What can we say about black business?Except that it employs so little black people, that we even question the existence of it. Think about it, when was the last time you applied for a job at a black owned business? And I mean an actual black business, not a “B-BBEE” business.
And to add insult to injury, how many of us are actually paying for a house or a car by being employed in a black business? The lack of proper black businesses is the main reason for the high unemployment rate amongst black people. And still black people remain the biggest consumers.
We buy our food from a white business. We buy our clothes from a white business. We buy everything from a white business. Meanwhile we have a lot of rich black people who should be starting companies that will be responsible for hiring black people. Although I have no doubts about the quantity of black businesses. The problem is the quality.
Imagine if one day we just decide to do our monthly grocery shopping at a black business. Now that will certainly go a long way into fighting the high unemployment amongst black people. We are both the cause and the solution to our problems.
