The increasing number of churches is alarming. Because it indicates a cry for help. That is why I do not subscribe to making jokes about religion. After all the most basic of all questions in life still remains unanswered. Religion provides the best guess in this regard.
There is more churches in poor communities than in rich communities. An indication no doubt, that there is no connection between being rich and being moral. Still, is this because religion provides a relief from the hardships of every day life?
Laziness is brought about by prayer. While riches are built on hardwork. Malcom X said that we go to church and pray to be washed as white as snow. A mentality which was caused by hundreds of years of conditioning. Which is no surprise why some of us bleach our skin.
In South Africa, in the 17th century baptism into Christianity implied equality, full burgher status and acceptance into white society. It was an element of self image. Of course this is not the case today, right? Steve Biko dubbed Christianity ‘the white man’s religion’. He must have seen the white lies contained within.
