Is unemployment failure of the individual or is it failure of the government? There is about 6 million unemployed people in South Africa. And the youth unemployment rose by 55.2% from 2018 to 2019. But yet it is funny how there is a stigma attached to being unemployed.
Many a people have had to turn to opening businesses, without sufficient capital. To escape the shame of unemployment. But you are more likely to get a loan to buy a car than a business loan. The financial sector fails small businesses before they even start.
There are government institutions to assist in funding. But I have never met anyone who has received funding from the government to start a business. Meanwhile 39% of black South Africans are unemployed. Compared to 8.3% of white South Africans.
And education does not guarantee employment. The same way capital does not guarantee a business’s success. The problem is the kind of education being provided. But it does not help to wallow in despair. We must do what have to do, with what we have. Instead of waiting for the world to change.
